Though initial buzz surrounding the film led to much speculation that "The Social Network" would win for best picture, the night's top honor went to "The King's Speech."

Nominated eight times this year, "The Social Network," was a serious contender at the 83rd Oscars Ceremony.  Directed by David Fincher, the film chronicles the dramatic story of the founding of Facebook.  It follows Facebook's founder and Harvard graduate Mark Zuckerberg during his trials and triumphs of founding the site, and the two lawsuits that followed; tackling the debate of who invented the revolutionary social network.

The movie received praise and recognition especially for Jesse Eisenberg's portrayal of a socially awkward but genius-like Zuckerberg, Aaron Sorkin's brilliantly fast-paced script, and a unique score.  Eisenberg acted alongside the talented Andrew Garfield, Justin Timberlake and Armie Hammer in the film.

Already the winner of Best Picture at the Golden Globes this year, the movie took home three more Golden Globes that night for Best Screenplay, Best Score, and Best Director. Along with these Golden Globes, the film also won four awards in the same categories at the Critics' Choice Awards this year.

Fincher's film earned an impressive eight nominations this year at the Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Actor, and Best Adapted Screenplay.
