L.A. Kings Score Big at Trade Deadline
The Los Angeles Kings came out of nowhere and made the biggest move of the unusually quiet NHL trade deadline by acquiring Dustin Penner from the Edmonton Oilers.
The 6-foot-4, 249-pound winger has 21 goals, 18 assists and 39 points this season and adds definite depth to the Kings. In the jam-packed Western Conference playoff race, the Kings can use all the help they can get.
The trade also proved highly lucrative for the Oilers, who get the King’s first-round draft pick in 2011, a conditional second-or third-round pick in 2012 and prospect Colten Teubert, the 13th overall draft pick in 2008.
Penner, 28, is no stranger to Los Angeles. He was a member of the 2007 Stanley Cup-winning Anaheim Ducks, netting 29 goals that season.
The Kings were on a three-game win streak (before losing to the Red Wings Monday night) and are now fifth in the West with a 35-24-4 record and 74 points.
