Iraqi Prime Minister Won't Run Again

On Friday, Maliki, who began his second term in office in December, said that he would cut his suspected $360,000 salary in half.
Though some have suspected the move is in response to the unrest in Egypt and Tunisia, Maliki's spokesman denies any connection.
"The constitution does not prevent a third, fourth or fifth term," said Maliki. "But I have personally decided not to seek another term after this one, a decision I made at the beginning of my first term."
Before Maliki's term ends in 2014, however, he plans on amending the country's constitution to limit the terms of following prime ministers.
"I support the insertion of a paragraph in the constitution that the prime minister gets only two turns, only eight years, and I think that's enough," Maliki said.
