Despite the success of the “Glee” Super Bowl spectacular, tonight’s episode proved to be even more entertaining, using phenomenal love songs that turned what could have been a potentially clichéd Valentine’s Day plot line into a completely enjoyable hour program.

The episode starts with Puck’s somewhat random infatuation with an unlikely Glee member—Lauren Zizes (Ashley Fink). His interest in the ex- wrestler begins the Valentine’s Day theme, and his courtship of her continues throughout the entire episode, ending in the promise of future dating.

After his championship victory, Finn gets a slightly absurd ego boost, prompting him to create a kissing booth. He also hopes to kiss Quinn one more time, eager

to steal her back. Eventually, their firework-inducing kiss leads to a potential affair—until Quinn calls it off, telling Finn that she needs to sort out her feelings before getting involved with him again.

Finn’s kissing booth not only creates new dynamics between him and Finn or awkward tension between Quinn and Sam but also ignites new possibilities within Finn and Rachel’s relationship, broken up by cheating before.

The budding relationship between Kurt and Blaine (Darren Criss) was brought to light because of Blaine’s over the top performance for another love interest. This will definitely be of more importance in future episodes.

Santana was another highlight of the episode, putting her bitter and jealous energy into breaking up the affair between Finn and Quinn. She added some comedy to the hour, somewhat missed due to Sue Sylvester’s absence.

Mr.Schuester’s assignment for the week asked the Glee members to pair up and sing their favorite love songs. Mike and Artie choose to sing Michael Jackson’s “P.Y.T.” The combination of talent created by McHale’s singing and Shum’s dancing created a phenomenal performance worthy of Jackson’s original song. Though the choice to do an MJ hit two episodes in a row was a bit unusual for “Glee” writers, the performance more than made up for the repeat.

Additionally, Lea Michele’s performance of “Firework” lit up the screen, overshadowing any presentation of the song by its original artist, Katy Perry. She effortlessly and beautifully hits all the notes in the song, something that can't be said for Perry.

Blaine and the Warblers’ performances on the show have been a consistent high spot of the most recent “Glee” episodes. While “Teenage Dream,” and “Bills, Bills, Bills,” showed off the group’s talent, tonight’s “When I Get You Alone” confirmed their esteemed and irreplaceable part in the show.
