As expected, Colin Firth completed an awards season sweep by nabbing the Best Actor award at Sunday night's Oscars.

Calling his competitors an "extaordinary list," Firth expressed "deep gratitude" for the honor.

For the Best Actor category this award season, there seemed to be no other competition as Firth ended up sweeping trophies from every show including the Golden Globes, Screen Actor’s Guild Award and the British Academy of Film and Television for his performance as King George IV in “The King’s Speech.”

Although he was up against other leading men including Jeff Bridges, James Franco, Jarvier Bardem, Jesse Eisenberg in the category, Firth was the likely front-runner for the golden statue by a wide margin.

Firth has been known to take on a wide array of roles from period pieces such as BBC’s adaptation of “Pride and Prejudice,” and “The English Patient,” to romantic comedies that includes “Bridget Jones’ Diary,” and “Love, Actually.”

He was previously nominated for an Academy Award back in 2010 for his role as George Falconer, a college professor who has witnessed recent pain, in the stylishly directed drama “A Single Man.”
