One may surprised at which stars have never won an Oscar before

After this year’s Academy Awards, a new branch of stars will be able to add “Oscar Winner” to their film credentials. Even though these stars deserve plenty of praise and congratulations on Oscar weekend, many often forget about the big stars who leave empty-handed year after year. With the help of “The Stir,” here are five actors who have surprisingly, never won before.

1. Johnny Depp

Depp has been in countless movies ranging from “Pirates of the Caribbean” to “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.” Regarding Oscar nominations, his only work nominated for an award is in “Pirates,” “Finding Neverland” and “Sweeney Todd.” His characters are unique and sometimes outrageous. Unfortunately, the Academy thought there were better actors at the time he was nominated.

2. Meg Ryan

I have to disagree with “The Stir’s” choice of Meg Ryan most surprising not to win an Oscar. She hasn’t even been nominated for one. In fact, she’s been nominated for more Razzies than Academy Awards. Sure, she has been in consistently decent movies. However, to me, it’s not all that shocking we don’t see more of her accepting awards.

3. Leonardo DiCaprio

“What’s Eating Gilbert Grape,” “The Aviator” and “Blood Diamond” are the three movies DiCaprio has been nominated for an Oscar. Even with the Golden Globes, he has only won one of six nominations. With his continuing successful movie career, DiCaprio is due for a trophy before his amount of roles slow down.

4. Glenn Close

Nominated for five Oscars, all in the 1980’s, Close has failed to take home the top prize. “Fatal Attraction,” “Dangerous Liaisons” and “The Big Chill” are just some of the movies Close was recognized far. In recent years, Close has moved her focus from movies to TV, in particular, her award winning role in “Damages.”

5. Bette Midler

She has won 24 awards ranging from Emmys to Golden Globes, and has been nominated an additional 17 times. However, when it comes to the Oscars, she has lost twice in the Best Actress Category. People may know her as only a singer or comedienne. But in fact, Midler deserves much credit for her acting career.
