Imagine being invited to the royal wedding and getting the daunting task of picking out the lucky couple’s wedding present. What could you possibly give to a couple that already has everything that they could ever want?

Prince William and Kate Middleton are saving their guests the trouble of answering that question come April 29th by requesting donations to charity in lieu of lavish wedding presents for the occasion.

Close family and friends will still be giving the royal couple gifts. However, general attendees will not be a traditional list of registered gifts but instead instructions toward how to make online or postal confidential donations to a list of charities that will be selected by the couple.

The move by the couple undoubtably continues the late Princess Diana’s charitable spirit. Both the Prince and Kate are associated with and lead multiple charitable organizations, and their wedding will likely promote millions of pounds being donated toward charities.

Not only did this move earn the royal party brownie points for being generous, but is an extremely smart idea. In order to avoid making this event too Marie Antoinette-ish or too flashy in this world’s recovering economy, the couple was able to convert this wedding into something that will benefit those who are most in need.

Although only 300 guests are expected to attend the evening reception taking place at Buckingham Palace, many more will be present at the wedding ceremony in the morning. Considering the calibre of wealth that will be in attendance in this wedding, these confidential donations are predicted to be huge and the amount totaled to be unprecedented.

Prince William and Kate are doing everybody involved a tremendous favor. Now, everyone who has been lucky enough to get invited to the wedding won’t have to scramble and think hard about what to possibly get for the bride and groom but will be able to easily make a donation that will satisfy and go toward a much bigger cause.

The royal couple is to be applauded for turning their personal day into something that will benefit people beyond ordinary reach.
