Rep. Gabrielle Giffords' condition continues to improve as she recovers from a gunshot wound to her head. On Tuesday night, the Arizona congresswoman's condition was upgraded from "serious" to "good."

According to a statement posted on Memorial-Hermann Texas Medical Center's website, Giffords is expected to be transferred a rehabilitation facility--TIRR Memorial Hermann--on Wednesday morning.

"Preparations are under way for her transfer to the rehabilitation hospital sometime tomorrow morning, pending review of her medical condition early in the morning," the statement read. Giffords has been in the Houston-area hospital's Neuro Intensive Care Unit since being transferred there on Friday.

Doctors upgraded Giffords' condition during President Obama's State of the Union speech, which she watched with her husband Mark Kelly by her side.

President Obama mentioned Giffords at the beginning of his speech. "As we mark this occasion, we are also mindful of the empty chair in this chamber, and we pray for the health of our colleague and our friend Gabby Giffords," Obama said.

The Tucson tragedy hung large over the State of the Union speech. CBS News reports:

Mr. Obama paid tribute to Rep. Giffords in the beginning of his remarks on Tuesday, and urged Americans to let the recent tragedy in Tucson stand as a reminder that "each of us is a part of something greater - something more consequential than party or political preference."

Members of Congress and other political leaders wore black and white ribbons to the speech in honor of the Democratic Arizona congresswoman, who was critically injured in a shooting earlier this month.

"The black/white ribbon has been a symbol of unity and hope for the entire Tucson community in the wake of this event," read a letter by Reps. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) and Mike McCaul (R-Texas), who urged their fellow State of the Union attendees to wear a ribbon. "The white ribbon represents hope for a peaceful, nonviolent society. The black ribbon is in remembrance of all who have died and been wounded as a result of violence."

The three-term congresswoman was critically wounded in a shooting rampage that left killed six people and injured a dozen more outside a Tucson supermarket on Jan. 8.

The accused shooter, 22-year-old Jared Lee Loughner, plead not guilty in a Phoenix courtroom Monday on federal charges that he attempted to assassinate Giffords and two of her aides.
