At 5 p.m. PST President Obama will speak at the University of Arizona Tucson as a memorial to those who lost their lives in the shooting there last weekend. The event, called "Together We Thrive: Tucson and America," will be livestreamed at the White House Web site.

The Christian Science Monitor says Obama's role will be one of "Healer-in-chief":
“Every person in the city of Tucson – and I trust in the state and the nation – recognizes the importance of the president of the United States coming to help us pray and heal from this [terrible] tragedy,” said Tucson Mayor Bob Walkup on Wednesday.
