L.A.'s Redevelopment Agency Allocates $930 Million In One Vote
Updated 9:30 pm with revised figure from The Associated Press.
Facing possible elimination under Gov. Jerry Brown’s budget proposal, the Los Angeles Community Redevelopment Agency voted Friday to dole out $930 million for hundreds of redevelopment projects, according to an Associated Press report.
The agency did not respond to a message seeking a list of projects to be funded.
Under Brown’s budget, redevelopment agencies would be axed and their funding would be redirected into local services, however existing projects would not be affected.
The allocation of funds now needs to be approved by the Los Angeles City Council, the Associated Press reported. Earlier this week, the council voted to oppose any elimination of the city’s redevelopment agency, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Friday's vote by L.A.'s redevelopment agency may be replicated throughout the state as local agencies increasingly fear Brown's budget ax.
