After a balmy three-day weekend, Los Angeles goes back to work today.

TUESDAY'S LEAD STORY

Down at city hall, council members will consider approving $930 million for redevelopment projects. Facing possible elimination under Gov. Jerry Brown’s budget proposal, the city’s redevelopment agency voted last week to transfer nearly $1 billion in property tax revenue to the city for hundreds of redevelopment projects. The council must now give the plan the O.K.  Under Brown's proposal projects already underway would be unaffected. Take a look at the projects here.

Last week’s move caught many by surprise: The CRA gave the public only a 24-hour notice before holding last Friday’s special meeting.  Brown has proposed eliminating all redevelopment agencies, saving the state $1.7 billion next fiscal year.  In the future that money would go to fund local services.

How will the council vote? Well, stay tuned, but they voted last week to oppose any elimination of the agency, so…

ALSO AT CITY HALL

The DWP could get a new general manager in Ron Nichols if the council gives their approval, and the mayor agrees.  Nichols would be the fifth person to hold the job in five years.

The family of Douglas Zerby, who was shot and killed by Long Beach police last month, is expected to attend a rally this evening in front of Long Beach City Hall. Zerby had been holding a water nozzle, which officers mistook for a gun. The LA Times has the background.
