Wednesday will mark a shift in power in Washington, D.C. as Republicans take control of the House of Representatives. But House Republicans are not wasting any time on one of their central campaign promises of the 2010 midterm elections, announcing on Monday that they have scheduled a vote to repeal President Obama's health care law.

The vote is scheduled for January 12, according to incoming House Majority Leader Eric Cantor.

"Obamacare failed to lower costs as the president promised that it would, and does not allow people to keep the care they currently have if they like it. That is why the House will repeal it next week," said Cantor spokesperson Brad Dayspring.

CNN is reporting that Republicans will unveil the legislation to repeal the bill on Monday night. A copy of the bill will then be viewable to the public through the House Rules Committee website.

Top Senate Democrats have already warned Speaker-elect John Boehner that they will block any attempts to repeal the law. "This proposal deserves a chance to work," Democratic leaders said in a letter that was obtained by the Associated Press. "It is too important to be treated as collateral damage in a partisan mission to repeal health care."

Republicans face an uphill battle to repeal the law in the immediate future, however, as Democrats control the Senate. President Obama would also have veto power if the bill passes through the House and the Senate.
