"Greek" Sets Up the Beginnings Of A Promising Season

I haven’t been as shocked and excited to see Nora Kirkpatrick (Katherine) as I was last week on Greek, and that includes her appearance at last year’s Coachella where she played the tambourine as a part of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros.

At the end of last season, I knew most of the CRU seniors wouldn’t be leaving. Casey (Spencer Grammer) deciding to stay and Ashleigh coming back were both bound to happen, but the return of Katherine? I did not see that coming.

One thing I love (but also hate) about Greek is that it’s not on all year-round. Survivor has had too many seasons to count, and apparently David

Archuletta was not the last American Idol winner.

Two seasons of Greek per year or even a couple more episodes each season and I don’t think I would still be waiting around for Casey and Cappie (Scott Michael Foster) to get back together.

Just three episodes into the season and Casey is already the law school slut, former head of USAG (University Students Against Greeks), Dale (Clark Duke), has joined Omega Chi and Rusty (Jacob Zachar) and Dana  (Martha MacIsaac) are busy acting out various Star Wars scenes that I would honestly rather not hear about.

The Casey and Cappie relationship dynamic has gone from intriguing to boring to virtually non-existent. I miss the old Cappie, and at this point, I’d rather have Casey in the arms of Evan Chambers (Jake McDorman) than have Cappie graduate from Cyprus Rhodes and Kappa Tau.

To offset the possible graduation of slackers Cappie and Heath (Zach Lively), Kappa Tau has one new pledge for this semester. KT legacy, “Spidey,” is still a mystery to me. I like the parallel between him and Rusty, but I still don’t know if his character will actually improve the show, or if he will just be a disappointment like Andylicious (Jesse McCartney’s character), who only stayed on for a couple of episodes to serve as Rusty’s friend-turned-rival.

One can only hope that Spidey does not serve the same purpose. Luckily, I don’t think I will see him recording songs with T-pain any time soon.

Other things I hope will happen in the future of season 4? Less Calvin (Paul James), unless he’s happy and hanging out with Heath.

Many college students don’t have majors, and it doesn’t necessarily make them all Cappie-esque. They can still graduate on time if they declare a major junior year.

I think the writers are trying to create more problems for Calvin now, since he is now happily out of the closet, in a steady relationship and has been replaced as Omega Chi president without the whole house turning against him.

They should fill this newly freed time with more about Rebecca (Dilshad Vadsaria), and not about how she’s worried about following in Ashleigh’s (Amber Stevens) footsteps as ZBT president. I’d love for her to revert back to the old, carefree Rebecca, without messing up her relationship with Evan (who I keep seeing as the Craigslist Killer, despite not having seen the Lifetime movie…yet).

Despite these few flaws, the students of CRU are more likeable than ever. The characters have evolved into more relatable people over the seasons, and I can’t wait to see how or where they end up at this season’s finale. The writers have set up some good plot points in just three episode’s time, and I’m excited to see where this goes (starting with this week’s episode that’s “All about Beav”).
