Wal-Mart, the country's largest private retailer, is accused of paying women less than men and promoting them less than their male colleagues.

But the retail giant has said the suit includes too many workers with disparate job histories, and therefore that it's not a valid class action suit.

According to Bloomberg, "The workers in the class come from 41 regions and 400 districts and carry 170 different job classifications, the company said in its appeal."
