U.S. Air Force Blocks New York Times Over WikiLeaks Cables
Members of the United States Air Force who try to access the website of the New York Times will now be confronted with a screen that reads, "Access Denied: Internet usage is logged and monitored."
The Air Force has compared the superlative www.nytimes.com to "websites hosting inappropriate materials or malware."
"It is unfortunate that the U.S. Air Force has chosen not to allow its personnel access to the most important news, analysis and commentary," said a New York Times spokesperson in response to the ban.
No other branch of the military has so far instituted a similar ban, although the Office of Management and Budget has advised federal employees not to read leaked cables that are above their security clearance.
