The New York Times reports that the suspect, who was killed in one of the explosions, was a 29-year-old Iraqi living in Sweden who was described as a radical by his mosque. Although he had adopted aspects of Western modernity, such as attending college in Bedfordshire, England and worshipping his iPad, he had become disaffected and radicalized.

The AP writes: 

At his local mosque in England, Taimour Abdulwahab al-Abdaly alarmed elders with his extreme views on Islam. On the Internet, he posted videos of Chechen fighters and abused Iraqi prisoners. 

He was also part of an Islamic dating site, where he advertised looking for a second wife.

Today, an Iraqi al-Qaida organization lauded the attack, describing al-Abdaly as a "muhjahid" or fighter and referred to him on another Arabic-language Islamist internet forum as "our brother," according to the Guardian. 

At a press conference on Monday, Swedish authorities said one of the bombs detonated prematurely, narrowly avoiding what would have been a deadly attack.
