South Korea Will Continue With Military Drill

South Korean officials said the country will continue with a planned live-fire military drill despite mounting international pressure to stop and threats from North Korea that the exercises will lead to "catastrophe."

The exercise, which was scheduled to take place this weekend, has been scheduled for Monday or Tuesday on Yeonpyeong Island.

Both Russia and China have asked South Korea to call off the exercises.

Former United States Ambassador to the United Nations Bill Richardson has met with North Korean Maj. Gen. Pak Rim-su. Though Richardson says General Pak's response was not threatening, he did express concern over some of the statements General Pak made.

North Korea has said that the country would retaliate against North Korea if it goes through with the planned drill.

Tension has grown between the two countries after the sinking of a South Korean warship earlier this year, which ended the North Korean/South Korean truce village of Panmunjom.
