President Obama signed Monday the Healthy Hunger Free Kids Act of 2010, which aims to fight childhood obesity and has long been supported by First Lady Michelle Obama.

The child nutrition bill will set nutritional standards for school food, including meals and vending machine items. Offerings will be more healthful.

The bill will also reauthorize the federal nutrition program, expanding free school meals for those who need it.

A Senate version of the bill was passed in August. But the House didn't approve it until earlier this month.

Some of the funding needed to pay for the bill will be covered through cuts to the food-stamp program, but Obama says he and Congress will try to find ways to restore the cut funds.
