A snow storm that blanketed parts of the Midwest Christmas Eve began moving southeast, bringing Christmas snowfall, flight cancellations and delays.

The storm, which brought 9 inches of snow to Iowa Friday, was expected to move into Tennessee and Georgia Saturday.

On Sunday and Monday, New England and the mid-Atlantic states will get snowfall as the storm intensifies and moves northeast along the East Coast.

Airlines, such as Delta and U.S. Airways, have issued travel advisories for Atlanta as well as cities in the Northeastern part of the U.S.

The Los Angeles Times reports many Christmas flight cancellations in Atlanta:

Delta Air Lines spokesman Morgan Durrant said 500 weather-related flight cancellations were planned for Saturday nationwide. That included 300 of the 800 scheduled departures from the Atlanta hub. Durrant said those affected had been notified.

Durrant recommended that passengers not travel on Christmas if they can help it.
