The U.S. House of Representatives could send to President Barack Obama as early as Tuesday a stripped-down version of a massive bill restructuring of how the government oversees the safety of food sold in America.

The food safety legislation was first approved by the House during the summer and approved a second time earlier this month. After both vores, glitches and worries in the Senate prompted rewrites of the bills.

This time, everything appears to be in order. President Barack Obama is expected to sign the bill repealing "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" on Wednesday before joining his family for Christmas in Hawaii. He could also get a chance to sign the food safety bill, which the Senate again approved Sunday night.

The Christian Science Monitor offers more details about the bill.
