The Los Angeles Police Department has identified 21 women from photographs they seized last July from the property of the alleged Grim Sleeper serial-killing suspect Lonnie David Franklin Jr., the LAPD said Monday.

Investigators were contacted by family and friends of at least 15 of those women, who confirmed they were "alive and well," according to the L.A. Times.

There are still about 150 pictures left--some duplicates of the same person--whose subjects have not been indentified.

On Thursday, the LAPD released photographs of about 160 unidentified women who may have been victims of the Grim Sleeper.

Franklin is believed to have committed at least 10 murders in South Los Angeles since 1985. He has pleaded not guilty to the killings.

The LA Weekly gave the suspected serial killer his moniker because of the long stretches between murders. However, officials have said they believe the Grim Sleeper may be responsible for more murders.
