After a two month hiatus, the show is back with more hijinks, crime-solving, and even—a little loving.

One must leave behind notions of a serious crime show where crimes are investigated according to protocol and ethics.

Shawn and Gus never seem to follow the rules but somehow always manage to apprehend these criminals and figure out just how everything was done.

The end of the last episode in September left Shawn and Gus helping a spy to clear her name with the aid of Juliet’s new love interest, Declan.

Shawn was realizing that he had to face the reality of Juliet going away with Declan on a romantic getaway to Italy without her ever knowing of his feelings for her.

But Juliet overhears Shawn admitting his love for her and by the end of the episode, Shawn and Juliet share a moment—and a kiss—that left viewers questioning where their relationship would go next.

Shawn and Gus find themselves back in Canada, after a criminal that they put away offers them an all-inclusive trip to visit him in a low-security Canadian prison.

This criminal is Pierre Despereaux, the infamous art thief, whose crime scenes are so clean and almost trace-less that it barely seems like a theft has taken place.

He first appeared in the premiere of the fourth season and has resurfaced to cause more mischief.

Cary Elwes, of “The Princess Bride” and “Robin Hood: Men in Tights” fame, guest stars as the cunning and classy Despereaux who wants to break out of jail to pull off one more great art heist.

He wants Shawn and Gus to witness this crime, but the duo unknowingly become accessories of Despereaux’s plot.

Despereaux is cunningly elusive for most of the episode. This makes it exceedingly difficult for Shawn and Gus, joined by Lassiter and Juliet, to try to keep up with the suave criminal.

But why is Juliet chasing criminals in Canada instead of basking in the Italian sun with her rich boyfriend? Shawn’s confession and their kiss seemed to have changed her mind.

And this romantic subplot continues to experience bad timing and glib excuses when they both try to have a serious conversation with each other throughout the episode.

At times this tension and suspense building concerning the pair can make the main plot line seem not as interesting.

Though by the end of the episode, Shawn and Juliet end up at a panoramic point above Vancouver and when they try to have a moment in private, they literally become a public spectacle.
