GOP After-Party: Govs Look To 2012
At a meeting of Republican governors in San Diego on Wednesday - the biggest victory celebration since the Nov. 2 elections - the GOP provided a sense of who may run for President in 2012.

Mississippi‘s Haley Barbour, Minnesota’s Tim Pawlenty, and Indiana’s Mitchell E. Daniels, Jr., all may embark on presidential campaigns.
Barbour, the Republican Governors Association’s chairman, has recently gained notoriety for his rivalry with Republican National Committee leader Michael Steele. Barbour served as RNC chair in the 90s.
Pawlenty, who decided not to seek a third term as governor in 2010, recently penned an op-ed for the San Diego Union Tribune calling for the repeal of new health care laws.
Bobby Jindal of Louisiana and Rick Perry of Texas have also been mentioned as possible presidential candidates, though they both say they will not run, the Washington Post reported.
The governors will have plenty of competition when they enter the race. Former House speaker Newt Gingrich, who will meet with the assembled governors Thursday, is expected to make a bid. Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin is expected to run, as well, and she has already expressed confidence that she can take down Barack Obama.
Governors have tended to perform well in presidential elections. Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush were all heads of their states.
