Democratic candidate John Hickenlooper may have been the frontrunner to win the Colorado gubernatorial election, but Independent Tom Tancredo has gained significant ground going into the final hours before polls close.

Hickenlooper had about a four point lead over Tancredo, but the Colorado secretary of state’s office said the Republicans had mailed in much more ballots than the Democrats.

Through the weekend, the Republicans had about a 61,500 lead in terms of ballots cast.

There have been discrepancies between the preliminary polls, but American Constitution candidate Tancredo has definitely come closer than anyone thought back in July.
