Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will head to Central Asia and the Persian Gulf as part of a diplomatic tour beginning Tuesday.

Clinton’s tour starts in Kazakhstan, at a summit meeting of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe. She will also meet with President Nursultan Nazarbayev. After Kazakhstan, Clinton will visit Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Bahrain.

Though a State Department spokesman said Clinton’s trip was planned long ago, the tour takes on new significance in light of the release of a slew of classified diplomatic cables Sunday.
