A New York Times forecasting model has projected Republican gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman's chance of winning the governorship at 6 percent, putting her odds at 15:1.

The FiveThirtyEight Model used polls from Suffolk University, Fox News and Public Policy Polling, which all showed Whitman trailing her opponent, Attorney General Jerry Brown, by between eight and 11 points.

The same model projected the former eBay CEO's chance of victory at 10 percent on Tuesday.

But some analysts warn that these numbers may be deceptively high, saying Democratic turnout will not be as high as Republican turnout.
