Whitman Campaign Now Most Expensive Non-Presidential Campaign In History
Having spent about $140 million of her own money on the California gubernatorial race, Republican candidate Meg Whitman is now running the most expensive non-presidential campaign in history.
She has outspent her opponent Jerry Brown by "better than 10 to 1."
According to the Campaign Media Analysis Group, Whitman is now running more than 1,300 television spots a day.
In a Rasmussen poll released Oct. 15, Brown leads Whitman with 50 percent of likely California voters' support to Whitman's 44 percent.
The poll's results come after a recording of a Brown campaign staffer calling Whitman a "whore" went viral.
With just two weeks left before the Nov. 2 midterm elections, Whitman and Brown continue to trade barbs across the state.
Brown aligned himself with former President Bill Clinton in events over the weekend and will receive support from President Barack Obama later this week.
