Verizon should be selling iPhones by early 2011, reports the Wall Street Journal.

Apple plans to start manufacturing iPhones with Qualcomm's CDMA chip by the end of this year. Customers who for years have clamored about AT&T's poor service will rejoice at the news that the phone will now be available on Verizon's network, which customer surveys show is more reliable.

AT&T has been the exclusive carrier of the iPhone in the U.S. since it was released in 2007.

A source also told the WSJ that a separate iPhone 5 is in development. The smartphone would have a completely different size than the current model.
