UPDATED: 5:07 pm PDT: An ad urging Latino not to vote was yanked from Univision airwaves amid outcries from Democrats saying it was a dirty trick against Dem. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.

Reid is running against Republican Sharron Angle for Nevada Senate. Sen. Reid has gained a majority of the Latino vote while Angle supports a strict immigration policy. If the Latino vote decreases, it could land Angle in the U.S. Senate.

In an interview with the Washington Post, Reid said, "Listen to her latest, running ads on Hispanic television telling people not to vote. She is trying to keep people from voting."

The Spanish-language network, Univision, announced on Tuesday it will not air an ad from a GOP-led Latino group telling Latino voters to sit out on Novembers elections.

A group, Latinos for Reform, launched a national ad campaign that targeted Hispanic voters who they say have been betrayed by members of Congress on delivering immigration reform promises pledged by President Obama during his 2008 campaign.

Monica Talan, a spokesman for Univision said in an email, “Univision will not be running any spots from Latinos for Reform related to voting.Univision prides itself on promoting civic engagement and our extensive national campaigns encourage Hispanics to vote.”

The same Republican-backed campaign also ran an ad on Univision’s Las Vegas Spanish-language radio station that was yanked from air immediately after it was released.

The Republican group planned on running the commercials in California, Florida, Nevada, Texas and Colorado.

Robert de Posada, founder of Latinos for Reform said that Democrats promised immigration reform to Latinos to get votes in the 2008 elections but shortly after ignored the issue. He also said that Latinos should punish both political parties by sitting out in the upcoming elections.

GOP Missed the Boat (not verified) on October 20, 2010 3:04 PM

SSSSStunning! Clearly, the Republicans know that the way they have handled things that they are on the defensive on this. It is stunning to tell Americans not to vote. How stupid. Indeed, Democrats have not done anything due to other urgent matters that affect ALL such as the economy and financial problems... the mess Republicans created but are currently on overdrive to confuse the issues and make Americans forget WHY we are here under these circus.

The return of Majority Senator Harry Reid (D-NV) Senator Boxer (D-CA) to Washington means expedited--MASS AMNESTY--for the 12 to 20 million illegal aliens in the first session of Congress. Democrats have voted to join --YOUR--Social Security and pension with illegal alien workers. According to the non-profit think-tank The Heritage Foundation, the cost will be $2.6 TRILLION DOLLARS to taxpayers. We are already taxed for illegal alien children education, for their health care and a overrun prison population. How much more does the Democrats want from us in taxes; immigration airline junkets from all across the globe, so they don't have criminally steal into America anymore? GOOGLE--more facts and answers on the Internet, then you decide your future. Taxpayers in Nevada and California have been whiplashed by higher taxes on a State level, to subsidize illegal immigrant. Acknowledge that Nevada and California have huge unemployment and billions of dollars in damaging state deficits. Remember we already have a $13 TRILLION DOLLAR US GOVERNMENT DEFICIT. Help fight corruption in Congress by joining THE TEA PARTY.

Gubernatorial Jerry Brown has identified himself as a Pro-Amnesty elected official, unlike Meg Whitman who is against any Path to Citizenship, Amnesty and cutting off welfare and cash payments to illegal aliens. Be observant and watch for violations of our voting laws by illegal aliens. A massive voter fraud in Houston, TX, proves the deceiving momentum of registrations by the Liberal fringe and extremists. American citizens must work together to require proof of citizenship to register to vote and require a photo identification card when casting a ballot. Citizens must demand such a plan to defend the integrity of General elections and secure the civil rights of voters. It's for sure that Election officials will be watching vigilantly and inspecting carefully absentee ballots for violations of the law, specifically in border states with millions of illegal aliens.
