Are you a sucker for sugar? A slave for sweets? Passionate about pastries? Then Syrup is the place for you.

Syrup Desserts is a hole in the wall in downtown Los Angeles, specializing in unique, sweet and tasty treats. In addition to coffee, ice cream sundaes and baked goods, the menu also includes custom desserts such as Nutella crepes and apple cheddar sweet grilled cheese sandwiches.

The restaurant has a modern vibe and comfortable environment. It is two stories high: the first floor with a cashier and traditional table and chairs set up and the second level with a lounge-like feel and couches, larger sofa chairs and board games. Customers order their desserts on the first floor and are served at their tables.

One notable dessert is the caramel apple waffle ($4.75). This Belgian waffle is topped with whipped cream, surrounded by roasted apples, doused with cinnamon and carmel and includes a side of dulce de leche ice cream. Their portions are greatly priced and very filling.

The uniqueness of the sweet grilled cheese sandwiches are too enticing to pass up — one of which is called the Astronomer’s grilled Muenster cheese sandwich with blackberries and walnuts ($5.50). Although it looks like your ordinary grilled cheese sandwich on the outside, the taste inside is  completely different and explosive—fresh blackberries and gooey cheese packed in between two slices of toasted, white bread lathered in butter, sprinkled with sugar and topped with more blackberries and crunchy walnuts.

If waffles or sweet grilled cheese sandwiches don’t sound tempting enough, Syrup also offers a variety of crepes from fruity to foreign. The Blueberry Fields crepe ($5.50) is made with sour cream mix, blueberry compote, fresh blueberries and blackberry jasmine tea ice cream. The Swedish Bliss crepe ($5.50) is made with sweet cheese, lingonberries, raspberries and French vanilla ice cream.

With delicious desserts, a fun atmosphere, hearty servings, low prices and late hours, Syrup Desserts is certainly the place to be with a sweet tooth.
