The Ooh LA L.A. Festival held over this weekend brought a variety of French acts to the city, headlined by Gotan Project.

The preceding nights however, were for the more low-key audiences with two bands performing at Spaceland on Friday night.

The venue filled to the max with a predominantly French supporting crowd, showing some love for their countrymen.

The night was opened by Revolver, who drew inspiration from pop music across the board, stretching all the way back to The Beatles and The Beach Boys. Though they appear young, they had sufficient energy to get a group of what could only have been foreigners, circle-dancing while every other hipster looked detached, silently watching.

They were followed by six-piece The Bewitched Hands on the Top of Our Heads, who sound not-unlike an Arcade Fire from France; from the vocals to the soaring build-up of instrumentation.

To my disappointment, it was later revealed the rollicking French circle-dancers were actually just drunken USC students.

Even though the night was understated, Ooh LA L.A. was worth checking out for the array of French bands that performed.
