Republicans Expected To Win House, Gain In Senate
Republicans are expected to win control of the House of Representatives on Election Day next week, ending two years of Democrat leadership and signaling a desire for change.
While the GOP only needs 39 seats to gain the majority in the House, some experts are predicting that they could gain as many as 50.
The Hill 2010 Midterm Election Poll surveyed 17,000 likely voters in 42 districts over four weeks and predicts "a massive Republican wave that, barring an extraordinary turnaround, will deliver crushing nationwide defeats for President Obama’s party."
Republicans are also poised to gain in the Senate, but are not expected to win the 10 seats needed to take control from Democrats.
High-profile Democrats like President Obama and former President Clinton have been campaigning across the nation for their party, and with six days before the election, unions, environmental groups and other Democratic-interest groups are pouring money into races throughout the country.
But the efforts could ultimately be too late.
"House Democrats face the potential of a political bloodbath the size of which we haven’t seen since the presidency of Franklin Delano Roosevelt," said pollster Stuart Rothenberg on Wednesday.
