Pakistan announced today that they were reopening the border crossing with Afghanistan at Torkham.  The border crossing had been closed for 10 days following a NATO incursion into Pakistani territory that killed two Pakistani soldiers.  NATO uses Pakistan as a vital fuel supply line for its war in Afghanistan, and the Khyber pass route that goes through Torkham was the main supply line.

29 fuel trucks were attacked and destroyed just hours before Pakistan announced that the main border crossing would reopen by approximately ten militants, who also fired upon the police officers who responded to the blasts.  Authorities reported difficulties in controling the blaze resulting from the burning fuel.

Nearly 150 fuel trucks were attacked by insurgents in the days since the border was closed and the trucks were stranded along the route.

A smaller crossing at Chaman, in the southwest region of the country, had remained open, but rerouted fuel trucks had created a backlog at that border crossing.
