With midterm elections just weeks away, President Obama is appealing to liberals to support Democratic candidates.

The Tea Party's momentum going into the election raises questions as to whether Democrats will keep their Congressional seats. In the most contested races, Democrats will need to outperform Obama in order to win.

Obama's campaign strategy has particularly targeted younger voters and minorities.

“You can’t sit it out,” Obama said to a conference call of student journalists last week. “You can’t suddenly just check in once every 10 years or so, on an exciting presidential election, and then not pay attention during big midterm elections where we’ve got a real big choice between Democrats and Republicans.”

Obama's strategy to bolster liberal backing includes:

  • Appearances at fundraisers in New Jersey on Wednesday and Illinois on Thursday
  • Rallies (The second one will be held in Philadelphia Sunday. A third and fourth rally are scheduled in Columbus and Las Vegas.)
  • A webcast town hall next Tuesday
  • A town hall broadcast on MTV as well as other channels next Thursday
