“Well, family is obviously the most important. There was a time when I thought football was the most important,” said Brett Favre, three-time NFL MVP, starting quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings and Grade A Jerk.

And what’s important now, Mr. Favre?

Perhaps he might have given a different answer on October 8, 2010; that's  the day when the NFL began to investigate accusations of his alleged lewd behavior towards former New York Jets reporter Jenn Sterger, which took the form of desperate voicemails and inappropriate “sexts.”

Wait a moment. Let me rephrase myself. Perhaps “inappropriate” is too generous of an adjective. Upon further thought, X-rated, ludicrous, revolting  and repulsive all come to mind. Let’s just say “Little Brett” does not belong on Sterger’s phone…or, for that matter, on the internet for the entire world to see. But so goes the world of sex scandals.

But enough about “Little Brett.” Apparently Big Brett, during the 2008 season, was allegedly pursuing Sterger, trying to get her number from inconspicuous sources and attempting to take her out on a date. Sterger at the time was a sideline reporter for the Jets, but, more notably to football fans, she gained notoriety for posing in Maxim and Playboy as a sports fan.

After the voicemails came the pictures—one of which apparently included Brett Favre’s manhood and some famous watch of his.

Before we think she’s something truly special and the only lucky woman snagging attention from the quarterback, there is also speculation that he tried to pursue two of the massage therapists for the Jets with texts - and sometimes sexts.

Yes, a 41 year-old grandfather is sending sexts. Allegedly.

The evidence is on Deadspin.com, in the form of a video containing the voicemail messages and pictures he supposedly left and sent for Sterger. Admittedly, there are parts of the video that sound a little off—perhaps even a little forced—but there are also parts of the message that sound exactly like Favre.

What is most intriguing about this scandal, however, are fans’ reactions. Disgruntled fans are blogging about how this is tragic for the world of football because little boys look up to their favorite players and are seeing star athletes do horrible things. Mind you, this obviously isn’t the first time someone in the public eye has disappointed the public. Especially in athletics. So, some people are dismissing this as the next Tiger Woods scandal. And some other people, myself included, are rolling their eyes in disdain and disgust. Brett Favre has a grandson!

According to ESPN, the NFL met with Favre on Tuesday to discuss the issue and determine just exactly what the consequences will be. There is talk of suspension and fines. However, Sterger has reportedly not cooperated so far with the NFL, and the investigation could hit a wall soon as a result.

Good luck Mr. Favre. But all I have to say is finally, media coverage about Brett Favre that doesn’t tell us he’s retiring for the umpteenth time.
