Melrose Trading Post: Bold Flea Market Fashion

The Melrose Trading Post is a flea market in a high school parking lot on the corner of Fairfax and Melrose. Pay the two-dollar entrance fee, and you are granted access to one of the hippest (and cheapest) spots to be on a Sunday afternoon.

The Trading Post recently expanded to include food and more vendors. Although it takes time to sift through the standard flea market fare, it’s worth it to find the innovative merchants who bring their wares each Sunday.

From handmade gothic-style rings to grommet-studded band tees, it’s clear that the overreaching style is decidedly “badass.” Triple-fingered rings are popular, as well as genuine leather cuffs with silver chains. The most intriguing vendor is Purrr Remake, a woman who revamps old t-shirts, making them crop-tops and slouchy tanks with bows and studs. Bring your favorite oversized tee and get it custom styled for you.

Although the style at each booth differs, a common theme is boldness. One vendor displays layered vintage gold necklaces for an updated MC Hammer look, while an abstract artist paints huge canvases with bright layers of color.
