The Los Angeles Fashion Week Spring 2011 Collections officially begin October 13th and go through October 20th at various venues throughout Downtown Los Angeles and Hollywood.  LA Fashion Week has always been known for its alternative designers who push the boundaries of traditional fashion while incorporating unique uses of textiles.  The previews for the Spring 2011 Collections appear to continue this tradition of fashion rebellion and innovation.

For all of you Project Runway fans, the always fabulous contestant Mondo Guerra will be headlining for The Millinery Guild’s LA Showcase at the Biltmore onFriday, October 18th

Another Project Runway elite, season seven winner Seth Aaron, is going to be pioneering a runway collection inspired by solar technology at the LA Convention Center on October 13th.  The show is running on the idea that “solar is the new black,” and it is not one to miss! The pro-solar collection will be displayed at the Solar Power International Trade Show.

If you love Lady Gaga or latex (and the two often go hand in hand), look for Geoffrey Mac's provocative collection, which will be presented at Skybar in West Hollywood on Tuesday, October 12th.

If you’re a little more low-key, check out Siwy Denim’s collection, debuting Thursday, October 18th at H’Wood.

And pay special attention to the incredibly talented Mike Vensel, who will be showcasing at Concept Fashion Week on Friday, October 15th. His designs are creative, flattering, and very wearable.

It may not be Paris or New York, but Los Angeles is in the forefront of environmentally-conscious concepts and designs.  Although many of the shows are invitation only, some simple RSVPing may be all that is necessary to get your foot in the door.  Check out the LA Fashion Week official website to see the full event calendar and to find out how to fight your way into the events.
