Members from hundreds of progressive groups, including civil rights leaders, environmental activists and celebrities, are expected to gather at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington Oct. 2 to take part in a march to end joblessness.

A collaboration of more than 400 organizations, the leaders of the One Nation Working Together campaign are striving for “jobs, justice and education for all.”

The march comes one month before the Nov. 2 elections, and is seen by many as the liberal response to the rally hosted by Glenn Beck and recent gatherings of Tea Party movement members.

But NAACP president Benjamin Jealous, one of the event’s organizers, denied the connection to Beck’s rally and said this one was planned before Beck’s Aug. 28 gathering.

Although organizers said the rally is nonpartisan, they are hoping it serves as inspiration for attendees to vote and change America’s future, Jealous said.

The march is expected to attract up to 100,000 people, organizers estimated. Organizers say they are hoping to recapture the enthusiasm of 2008, when President Obama was elected.
