Ginni Thomas Asks For Apology From Anita Hill On Voicemail
It's been nearly 20 years since Anita Hill accused Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas of sexual harrassment during his confirmation hearings. But now, Virginia Thomas decides it's time for an apology.
On Oct. 9 she left a voicemail for Hill at Brandeis University:
Good morning Anita Hill, it’s Ginni Thomas,” Thomas said in the voicemail played back to the New York Times. “I just wanted to reach across the airwaves and the years and ask you to consider something. I would love you to consider an apology sometime and some full explanation of why you did what you did with my husband.”
“So give it some thought," Thomas continued. "And certainly pray about this and hope that one day you will help us understand why you did what you did. O.K., have a good day.”
Well, Hill didn't have quite such a good day after hearing that message. She thought it was a joke and reported it to the police.
Thomas said the voicemail was intended as an olive branch. But Hill in no way took it.
“I appreciate that no offense was intended, but she can’t ask for an apology without suggesting that I did something wrong, and that is offensive,” Hill said.
