The California State Assembly passed a budget bill Thursday afternoon with 54 yes votes--the exact two-thirds majority needed for approval.
The bill now awaits approval from the State Senate. Then both houses would have to agree on differences and pass a series of related measures before the budget package would go to Gov. Arnold Schwarzeneggar for his signature.

Annenberg Radio News offers an explanation of what the budget bill means for California.

Neon Tommy has an infographic explaining how legislators are closing a $19 billion budget deficit.
