Brown V. Whitman: Candidates Tied In New Poll
Jerry Brown and Meg Whitman are now tied with less than two weeks before election day, according to one poll released Tuesday. The poll, sponsored by the Republican Governors Association, shows each candidate with 46 percent of the vote.
Both Brown and Whitman launched new television ads Tuesday, letting the attacks fly at one another.
Whitman’s 15-second commercial depicts Brown as a puppet controlled by unions, who have donated $20 million to his campaign. Brown’s minute-long ad compares Whitman to current Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, showing her mimicking the governor’s words almost identically in some cases.
After Brown’s ad aired, Whitman’s campaign fired back by linking the attorney general to Schwarzenegger and their mutual support of a 2009 tax.
Schwarzenegger has not endorsed either candidate in the race.
Thirteen days before voters cast their ballots on Nov. 2, Whitman’s team continues its aggressive pursuit of independent voters, and Brown’s group continues to concentrate on the heavily Democratic areas of L.A. and the Bay Area.
