Brandon Flowers' days as the lead of The Killers aren't quite over yet. His new song "Crossfire," and new solo album Flamingo (released Sept. 14), is definitely one for his fans.

While The Killers takes a short hiatus, his solo foray is one that is true to his roots and spirit.

His first song off the album, "Crossfire," has a gospel-tinged and fiery melody, accompanied by soft vocals; not altogether different from the more spiritual songs found on a standard "Killers" album.

However, his solo songs reveal Brandon's influence in The Killers; his music isn't as catchy and upbeat as the chorus in "I've got soul, but I'm not a soldier" ("All These Things That I've Done"), but deeper and more spiritual-like in "When You Were Young." And at the ripe old age of 29 years old, Brandon's "Crossfire" is a much more reflective song.

His second release, "Only the Young," is similar to "Crossfire," but his vocals are even more spiritually resonating and uplifting.

His lyrics include the line "Only the young can break away," referring to youth finding love, and their path in life.

His album is utterly refreshing, and with his solo album being a one-off before he rejoins his band, he has produced original material, unadulterated by U.S. Billboard Chart conquests (he didn't sell out).

That said, Flamingo hasn't quite achieved the same level of success as The Killers' last album, Day & Age.

Flamingo, peaking at a respectable eight, is slightly below Day & Age, which peaked at number six on the Billboard Chart.

In the meantime, it seems that the rest of the band, apart from the drummer, are enjoying some leisure time. NME.com reports that "Killers" drummer Ronnie Vannucci Jr. has been working on material with members of the British bands Keane and Mumford & Sons, under the pseudonym Mt. Desolation.

The time apart could make for a phenomenal new "Killers" album in 2011/12. Although Brandon could probably use a rest in his old haunt of the Flamingo hotel in Vegas beforehand, his tour kicks off on Nov. 11 at the Fox Theatre in Irvine, California.
