Republican U.S. Senate candidate Carly Fiorina was back on the campaign trail Thursday, after being hospitalized for an infection. With Boxer leading Fiorina in the polls 48% to 46%, the time to make up your mind for Tuesdays election is now.

Who you choose will be decided by how content you are with the state of affairs in the current government. While Boxer has been a senator for nearly 18 years, Fiorina is new to the political game. Many of Fiorina's critics point to this lack of experience in politics as a reason to vote against her. Yet, aren't "career politicians"  a problem with our government to begin with?

The goal of a politician is to get elected. However, at what point does getting elected take precedence over doing the right thing? If power corrupts, then we should want politicians to be replaced as often as possible. The experience factor is just the practice of learning to lie more convincingly and making promises to campaign donors.

This is exactly the kind of thing we want to avoid.

Carly Fiorina is just another American citizen who wants to give Washington a try, with the hopes to battle corruption and follow her moral compass.

Do I think she will remain pure for her entire career? It’s difficult to say, but history is against her. That is the reason we have terms for each elected official. Barbara Boxer has had 3 terms as a senator and has contributed to the unemployment rate (12.4% in California) and poor economy by voting for higher taxes, unemployment benefit extensions and the health care bill.

California, which has the fourth highest state debt in the U.S, doesn’t realize how bad of shape it’s in. Moreover, when it comes to high taxes for businesses, the state is the second worst,  trailing only New York. This causes business owners in CA to relocate and drives out jobs and taxpayers. That explains California being ranked 49th for low unemployment (out of 51, including Washington, D.C.).  

Moroever, it appears Sen. Boxer has let her prestigious title go to her head. Boxer snapped at Brig. Gen. Michael Walsh when he addressed her as “ma’am” instead of calling her “Senator” during a Seante hearing last year.  This is the type of government arrogance that has been insulting to all Americans.

Once the people vote a candidate into office, that representative develops an attitude that they are better than everyone else. And once that mannerism develops, the elected official no longer becomes representative of the people; instead, they often think they know better than those who elected them to begin with.

Fiorina has been the CEO of a large company (Hewlett Packard) and was able to run that company in order to maximize profit. If government was run as a private business (in other words, if they had to make a profit), then I believe the deficit would be non-existent, employment opportunities would rise and competition would drive technological improvements. Instead, the government has been trying to spend its way out of a recession and borrow its way out of debt.

Boxer is a part of the government who got us into this mess and she isn’t helping get us out of it. I trust Fiorina’s business skills will come into play when she is forced to deal with California’s crumbling economy.

On Nov. 2, California voters will have a major choice to make. Whatever you do… choose wisely.
