1. Red Cortez @ The Troubadour
I heard Red Cortez for the first time at Sunset Junction music festival a few weeks ago. Besides being made up of attractive band members that caught my eyes, their songs caught the attention of my ears as well. Their rock has a touch of blues and latin influences, and the lead singer twists and turns with passion as he switches between guitar and harmonica—sometimes both. They open for Alberta Cross and Dead Confederate Saturday night at the Troubadour. The show is all ages.

2. Lindsay Rae Spurlock
This bubbly pop-rock singer travels to L.A. this weekend from her home in Austin, TX. Her song "November" was featured on MTV's "The Real World." Grab the girls for a night out and hear her charming and catchy tunes Friday night at Aqua Lounge in Beverly Hills or Saturday night at Room 5 in West Hollywood. Aqua Room, all ages. Room 5, 21+

3. Pinhole Lomography Workshop
Step back to the basics with low-tech pinhole photography. Get your creative juices flowing and surround yourself with fellow artistic-types this Saturday when the Lomography Gallery Store L.A. will feature a workshop in pinhole image making. The workshop is part of the store's September Expect the Unexpected celebration.

4. L.A. Derby Dolls vs. Tucson's Iron Curtain
There's nothing like chicks smashing into each other and speeding around a rink on a Saturday night. Come see roller derby all-stars Laugna Beyatch, Titty Titty Bang Bang and Lace N' Arsenic match up against the Iron Curtain team from Tucson, AZ. 21+

5. Downtown L.A. Film Festival
Starting Wednesday and continuing through the weekend, this festival showcases local independent films and shows the culture and technology of the city. Friday night attend a Green Film Series and panel or go to Taco Cinema Saturday for gourmet street food in addition to the film festival.
