1. Free Museum Day
Get cultured... fo' free. The Smithsonian sponsors this nation-wide free museum admission day, all you have to do is go here and print out your ticket. It's good at several great museums in the L.A. area, including the Hammer museum at UCLA, MOCA, the Autry and the Grammy Museum. Check out the full museum listing here.

2. Silver Lake Flea Market
This arts and crafts fair only comes around the last weekend of every month and has been hailed by many flea-market buffs as one of the best out there. Located at Sunset and Michelltorena, in the heart of hipsterland (aka Silver Lake), it makes sense that the fair boasts unique products made by local vendors. Venture out this Saturday and come home with that cool, one-of-a-kind thing that will make all of your friends jealous.
Free
Saturday, Sept. 25, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

3. Glow Santa Monica
This biennial event features night-time visual and performance art as well as music throughout Santa Monica. The last event, in 2008, had more than 200,000 attendants that flooded the area and resulted in general confusion. Now that the event's organizers know what to expect, problems in parking and organization have been addressed for an even more successful experience this year. Check out the website and plan your visit. To get a sense of what you'll see, here's a gallery of photos from Glow 2008.
Free
Saturday,  Sept. 25, 7 p.m. - 3 a.m.

4. Rumspringa Record Release @ The Bootleg
This band is celebrating the release of their debut record of hypnotizing, blues-soaked music at the Bootleg Friday. Also playing is Gamble House, an indie, experimental band I first saw at the National History Museum's First Fridays concert series in May. If you're a Grizzly Bear fan, you'll like them.
$8, 21+
Friday, Sept. 24, 9:30 p.m.

5. Jackalope and Monkey Rock @ La Tienda
The zine Jackalope partners with Monkey Rock Records to celebrate the release of its newest issue with a night of music, beer and art (all the things the zine features) at La Tienda in downtown. The event will feature more than 12 bands and art by 15 artists. RSVP here or by emailing monkyrockrecords@gmail.com.
