1. Eagle Rock Music Festival
Rock out to local bands at this cheap, nonprofit music festival sponsored by Eagle Rock Center for the Arts. Among dozens of artists, the festival includes San Diego's The Soft Pack and L.A. band Moses Campbell. If the $5 admission wasn't enough of a steal, the festival provides free parking and shuttles.

2. John Lennon's Birthday Celebration @ The Egyptian
Celebrate the would-be 70th birthday of John Lennon this Friday with a triple-feature show at the Egyptian Theater. "What's Happening! The Beatles in the USA," "Mighty Good! The Beatles" and "Things They Said Today: Reflections on A Hard Days Night" document the Beatles in America, their influence on 20th century pop, and the making of their first movie.
$9 Students, $11 General Admission

3. Opening of Resnick Pavilion @ LACMA
This weekend marks the opening of LACMA's newest space, a 45,000-square-foot exhibit area that is now the largest open-plan museum space in the world. The first exhibits are "Eye for the Sensual: Selections from the Resnick Collection," "Olmec: Colossal Masterworks of Ancient Mexico" and "Fashioning Fashion: European Dress in Detail, 1700-1915." In celebration LACMA is offering free admission this Saturday and Sunday. Sign up here to reserve your spot.

4. Shepard Fairey @ Subliminal Projects
We all know the "Hope" poster that became an iconic image of Obama during his campaign, but there is much more to artist Shepard Fairey than this one piece. He is also famous for proliferating the image of Andre the Giant and the Obey street-art sticker around Los Angeles and beyond. See more of his work at his own gallery in Echo Park.

5. Alpine Village Oktoberfest
Grab a pint and celebrate all-things-German at this festival that attracted nearly 70,000 attendees last year. You can look forward to authentic German bands, beer and food. The party goes down in Torrance, just a half-hour drive south of downtown. Lederhosen optional.
