Fifty U.S. mayors are gathering at a conference in Washington, D.C., this week to discuss national policy issues and their impact on our nation’s cities.

The two-day meeting, hosted by the U.S. Conference of Mayors, will begin Thursday at the St. Regis Hotel.

Antonio Villaraigosa, mayor of Los Angeles and vice president of the USCM, is scheduled to attend along with U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood and U.S. Treasurer Rosie Rios.

The bi-partisan meeting will cover the topics of small business, energy efficiency, transportation, “green” job creation and infrastructure, according to organizers.

Many are inquiring as to what Mayor Villaraigosa’s agenda will include. According to Elena Temple, a representative from the USCM, “He is going to listen to what the mayors are saying but they are all going to speak generally about national issues and discuss strategies.”
