Sarah Shourd, 32, was heading for the sanctuary of the Swiss Embassy in Tehran while paperwork for her release on bail was completed. She was due to leave the country later on Tuesday evening.

Shourd had already been diagnosed as suffering from precancerous cervical cells and a breast lump, but has had no treatment during her time in prison.
