"Resident Evil: Afterlife"

(USA, 2010, 97 mins)

And so the "Resident Evil" movie franchise continues. In the fourth installment "Resident Evil: Afterlife 3D", viewers are once again presented with human zombies and their actual human counterparts attempting to ward them off to remain uninfected by the T-Virus. Except this time, there’s a twist.

The 3D addition on to the franchise adds more suspense and a somewhat interactive experience shared with the characters in the movie. Milla Jovovich provides a stellar performance as she reprises her role as Alice, and attempts to save the day once again. Of course there was the usual addition of new characters, or a new team if you will, and by the end of it all, the team had been trimmed down in numbers quite considerably due to some villainous obstacles.

Overall, the film kept me at the edge of my seat. The film score was great as it set the tone for the cheesy horrifying events in the movie. Thankfully, there wasn’t much gore.

Was "Resident Evil: Afterlife" revolutionary, or even an original plot? Honestly, it was more of the same. And yes, there will probably be even more of the same to come because this sequel, like every other "Resident Evil" installment, ends in a cliff hanger.

Unsurprisingly, the movie fared quite well in its opening weekend, bringing $27.7 million for the weekend and beating out competition from films like "Takers" and "The American". The fourth installment also surpassed the mark of the last "Resident Evil" film, which brought in $23.7 million in its opening weekend. So, if you're looking for a movie to get your heart racing, see the flick. After all, one can never have too much of Milla Jovovich.

Verdict: See it in theaters TWICE.

Ranking: 4/5
