Republican gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman and U.S. Senate candidate Carly Fiorina both received endorsements from former first lady Nancy Reagan Wednesday after a private meeting was held among the three in Los Angeles.

Few details were released about the meeting, but both the Fiorina and Whitman camps released statements in which Reagan shows her support for the GOP candidates.

“I believe she knows what needs to be done to move our country forward,” Reagan said about Fiorina.

Later, the Whitman campaign released this statement by Reagan: "I am impressed with [Whitman's] ideas. I am confident she will be a good governor.”

The Los Angeles Times noted that Reagan and Fiorina do differ in opinion on at least one major issue: stem cell research. While Fiorina doesn’t support stem cell research outright, Reagan is a staunch advocate for research using embryonic cells.
